CAPAC Chair Celebrates the Confirmation of Anne Hwang and Sparkle Sooknanan
WASHINGTON, D.C. — Last week, the U.S. Senate confirmed Anne Hwang as U.S. District Judge for the Central District of California and Sparkle Sooknanan as U.S. District Judge for the District of Columbia.
Congressional Asian Pacific American Caucus (CAPAC) Chair Rep. Judy Chu (CA-28) issued the following statement:
“I would like to offer my heartfelt congratulations to Anne Hwang and Sparkle Sooknanan on their historic confirmations to the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California and the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia, respectively. Sparkle Sooknanan, who currently serves as principal deputy assistant attorney general in the Civil Rights Division of the Department of Justice, brings tremendous expertise and an unwavering commitment to equal justice. Anne Hwang, with years of experience as a public defender and judge of the Los Angeles County Superior Court, brings an invaluable dedication to public service. Both women will be indispensable additions to our justice system. I am thankful for President Biden's dedication to nominating highly qualified and diverse candidates for federal judicial positions, and I appreciate Senate Majority Leader Schumer's leadership in ensuring the success of this confirmation.”
