CAPAC Chair Meng Slams Senate Government Funding Bill
WASHINGTON, D.C. — Today, Rep. Grace Meng (NY-06), Chair of the Congressional Asian Pacific American Caucus (CAPAC), released a statement following House passage of the Senate’s government funding bill:
“President Donald Trump and Republicans control the House, the Senate, and the White House. They have the power to lower costs and make health care more affordable. Instead, they have chosen to shut down the government and go on a taxpayer-funded vacation for 43 days rather than address the affordability crisis they created.
“This is a political choice. They have chosen to increase health care costs by thousands of dollars next year, including for over 1.5 million Asian Americans, Native Hawaiians, and Pacific Islanders (AANHPIs) who receive health care through the Affordable Care Act. They have chosen to let people go hungry by withholding food assistance for nearly 2 million AANHPIs. Playing political games with people’s lives is not leadership. It is cruelty.
“This funding bill is nothing more than an empty promise from the same party who passed the largest cut to health care in our nation’s history. It fails to address the skyrocketing health care costs that millions of families are facing. One thing is clear: President Trump and Congressional Republicans have turned their backs on the American people.”
