CAPAC Chair Meng’s Statement on the Passing of Congresswoman Colleen Hanabusa
WASHINGTON, D.C. — Today, Rep. Grace Meng, Chair of the Congressional Asian Pacific American Caucus (CAPAC), issued the following statement on the passing of Congresswoman Colleen Hanabusa, who served as the U.S. Representative for Hawaiʻi’s first congressional district from 2011 to 2015 and from 2016 to 2019.
“I am saddened to hear about the passing of my former colleague, Congresswoman Colleen Hanabusa. Rep. Hanabusa devoted her life to public service and fought tirelessly on behalf of Asian Americans, Native Hawaiians, and Pacific Islanders in the halls of Congress as a member of CAPAC. She broke barriers as the first woman to serve as President of the Hawaiʻi State Senate and inspired generations of leaders who followed. I extend my deepest condolences to the Hanabusa ʻohana and the people of Hawaiʻi during this difficult time."
