CAPAC Chair Statement on Neera Tanden’s Historic Elevation

May 5, 2023

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Today, President Biden announced Neera Tanden would serve as an Assistant to the President and Domestic Policy Advisor. She will replace Ambassador Susan Rice in the role.

CAPAC Chair Rep. Judy Chu (CA-28) released the following statement:

“I welcome President Biden’s historic announcement of Neera Tanden as Assistant to the President and Domestic Policy Advisor. As the first Asian American to lead any of the three major White House policy councils in history, Tanden has a wealth of experience and will immediately be able to expertly serve the President—crafting policy and marshaling the resources of the federal government to improve the lives of all Americans. I look forward to CAPAC’s continued engagement with her to ensure that the policy needs of our communities are being addressed.

“That this announcement comes during Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander Heritage Month underscores the President’s continued commitment to a diverse federal workforce and ensuring all our communities’ voices are at the table.”
