CAPAC Commends Nomination of Theodore David Chuang to U.S. District Court for the District of Maryland
Washington, DC – Today, President Obama nominated Theodore David Chuang to the United States District Court for the District of Maryland. Members of the Congressional Asian Pacific American Caucus (CAPAC) released the following statements:
Rep. Judy Chu (CA-27), CAPAC Chair: “I would like to congratulate Theodore David Chuang for his well-deserved nomination to the U.S. District Court for the District of Maryland. If confirmed, he will be the first person of Asian descent to serve on this court. I know that Mr. Chuang’s strong legal background and work with the AAPI community will provide a unique perspective on the federal bench, and I have no doubt that he will continue to serve his country and community well. I thank the President for his continued commitment to diversifying the federal judiciary, and urge the Senate to move quickly on Mr. Chuang’s confirmation.”

Background:
Since 2009, Theodore David Chuang has served as Deputy General Counsel of the United States Department of Homeland Security. Prior to this, Chuang served as the Chief Investigative Counsel for the U.S. House Committee on Energy and Commerce and the Deputy Chief Investigative Counsel for the U.S. House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform. Chuang also spent three years at a private firm, Wilmer Cutler Pickering Hale and Dorr LLP. After graduating with a B.A. from Harvard University and a J.D. from Harvard Law School, Chuang started his legal career as a law clerk for Judge Dorothy W. Nelson on the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit.
