CAPAC Meets with Acting Under Secretary for Minority Business Development Eric Morrissette

April 17, 2024

WASHINGTON, D.C.  Today, Acting Under Secretary of Commerce for Minority Business Development Eric Morrissette met with Members of the Congressional Asian Pacific American Caucus (CAPAC) to provide updates on efforts by the Minority Business Development Agency (MBDA) to help U.S. minority business enterprises grow and succeed in light of a federal judge’s ruling last month that the MBDA’s presumptions for race and ethnicity are unconstitutional.

CAPAC Chair Rep. Judy Chu (CA-28) released the following statement following the meeting:

“I want to thank Acting Under Secretary Morrissette for updating Members of CAPAC today on the MBDA’s work to expand access to capital, contracts, and markets for American business enterprises. As we saw with last month’s ruling by a federal judge and ongoing efforts by extremist Republicans to dismantle programs serving disadvantaged communities, we must redouble our efforts to strengthen opportunities for entrepreneurs from underserved backgrounds, including people of color, women, and low-income individuals. As the MBDA continues its critical work to lower economic barriers for U.S. business owners to thrive, I appreciate that Acting Under Secretary Morrissette and Commerce Secretary Gina Raimondo are committed to using every resource available to the agency to support all communities in achieving their American Dreams. I look forward to our continued partnership.”
