March 6, 2015

Washington, DC – Today, Members of the Congressional Asian Pacific American Caucus (CAPAC) released the following statements in celebration of Holi, the Hindu Festival of Colors:

Congresswoman Judy Chu (CA-27), CAPAC Chair:

“I wish all the communities and families celebrating the Festival of Colors a very happy Holi! As we mark the end of winter, let us joyously welcome the renewal of spring with friends, music, and color. On behalf of the Congressional Asian Pacific American Caucus (CAPAC), may the season of Holi bring love, happiness, and peace to you and your loved ones.”

Congressman Mike Honda (CA-17), CAPAC Chair Emeritus:

“Happy Holi to everyone in Silicon Valley, and around the world! I am proud to join so many people in celebrating a Spring festival also known as the festival of colors. As we celebrate the beginning of a new season with festivities that include bright colors, music, and dance, let us wish our loved ones and friends a prosperous spring. I wish everyone a joyous festival! Happy Holi!”

Congressman Mark Takano (CA-41), CAPAC Whip:

“Every year, Holi provides an opportunity for all faiths to come together and celebrate the arrival of spring. As you gather with your loved ones for this grand festival of colors, I hope that you find peace, hope and harmony.”

Congressman Ami Bera (CA-07):

“I wish everyone in Sacramento and around the world a safe and happy Holi. May this Holi celebration welcome a prosperous and colorful spring for all communities.”

Congresswoman Tulsi Gabbard (HI-02):

“Holi is a time to celebrate renewal and a strengthening of community and family bonds. Since ancient times this festival of colors has commemorated divine pastimes, such as when Lord Krishna played Holi with His associates and devotees. I celebrate Holi along with millions of Hindus in the United States and around the world. I wish all a very happy Holi!”

Congresswoman Barbara Lee (CA-13):

“The ancient Hindu festival of Holi celebrates the rejuvenation and renewal of springtime. After the end of a long winter, Holi is a wonderful way to celebrate the diversity and culture in our communities, families and nation. I wish all those around the world who are celebrating a safe, joyous and colorful Holi.”

Congressman Ted Lieu (CA-33):

“The spirit of Holi comes in many forms and names such as: Spring Festival, Festival of Colors, and Festival of Love. A traditional Hindu religious festival, Holi is celebrated by Hindus and also non-Hindus with multi-colored powder and water. The largest Holi event in Southern California will take place in my district in the city of Redondo Beach this year. Let us celebrate the diversity of our nation and embrace the different cultures that make America great.”

Congresswoman Bonnie Watson Coleman (NJ-12):

“I proudly join all those celebrating the festival of Holi and the colors and bright spirits of Spring. The Festival of Colors is a time of joy and happiness in my district, across the country, and around the world. I pray that everyone taking part in Holi festivities enjoys the harmony and prosperity of the season.”
