Chair Meng: The Time to Pass the American Dream and Promise Act is Now

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Today, Rep. Grace Meng (NY-06), Chair of the Congressional Asian Pacific American Caucus, spoke at a press conference in support of H.R. 1589, the American Dream and Promise Act of 2025. The bipartisan legislation would establish a pathway to permanent residency and U.S. citizenship for millions of eligible Dreamers, Temporary Protected Status (TPS) holders, and Deferred Enforced Departure (DED) recipients—including more than four hundred thousand Asians and Pacific Islanders in the United States.

Chair Meng is an original cosponsor of the legislation and has signed the discharge petition to force a House floor vote once it reaches the required 218 signatures. The bill is also endorsed by the Congressional Asian Pacific American Caucus.

“I’m Congresswoman Grace Meng, Chair of the Congressional Asian Pacific American Caucus. I am proud to join Rep. Sylvia Garcia and my colleagues to say with one voice: The time to pass the American Dream and Promise Act is now!

“As my colleagues have mentioned, there are millions of hardworking immigrants who grew up here, go to school here, work here, built their families here, and are American in every way except on paper. This includes the 430,000 DREAMers from Asian countries such as India, China, South Korea, and the Philippines, as well as over 10,000 TPS holders from Myanmar and Nepal. But because they were born somewhere else, this president is choosing to dangle the threat of deportation over their heads in perpetuity.

“Congress has the power to change this. All we need are 218 signatures to force a vote on this bill. We must do right by our immigrant neighbors and families and establish a pathway to citizenship for people to live in the country they call home.

“CAPAC is proud to endorse this legislation and protect our immigrant communities, because home is here!”
