CAPAC Chair Applauds Biden’s Nomination of Nellie Liang as Under Secretary of Treasury
Washington, D.C. — Today, President Joe Biden nominated Nellie Liang to be the Under Secretary for Domestic Finance at the U.S. Department of Treasury. Liang, a former Senior Fellow in Economic Studies at the Brookings Institution and visiting scholar at the International Monetary Fund’s Monetary and Capital Markets Department, brings over three decades of experience from her time at the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System. Congressional Asian Pacific American Caucus (CAPAC) Chair Rep. Judy Chu issued the following statement:
“It is a joy to congratulate Nellie Liang on her nomination to serve our country as Under Secretary for Domestic Finance at the U.S. Treasury Department. This nomination is a well-deserved reflection of Nellie’s decades of work in finance and economics. And, as one of only three Under Secretaries at the Department of Treasury, this nomination would make Nellie the highest ranking Asian American in the Department and one of the most senior Asian American appointees in our federal government. This is another nomination in fulfilment of President Biden’s promise to build an administration that looks like America. And it will have a real impact on our country. As Under Secretary for Domestic Finance, Nellie will oversee the financial institutions responsible for small business lending and community development – areas where Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders and other communities of color have historically had a harder time accessing capital. As we work to rebuild our economy, I’m thrilled to know that we will have such a qualified leader at the helm to ensure every community can take part in our recovery.”
