CAPAC Chair Applauds Nomination of Neera Tanden to Serve as Director of the Office of Management and Budget

November 30, 2020

Washington, D.C. – Today, President-elect Joe Biden nominated Neera Tanden to serve as the Director of the Office of Management and Budget (OMB). Congresswoman Judy Chu, Chair of the Congressional Asian Pacific American Caucus (CAPAC), released the following statement:

“I am thrilled that President-elect Biden has nominated Neera Tanden to serve as the Director of the Office of Management and Budget. Neera is a strong, experienced leader who is ready to tackle the urgent economic and financial policy decisions facing our nation as we work to recover from the coronavirus crisis and rebuild an economy that works for all Americans. As someone who relied on public housing and food stamps as a child, she also knows firsthand how social safety net programs can level the playing field for working families.

“Neera’s historic nomination is a great step forward for the Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) community and one that I am proud to support. If confirmed, she will be the first woman of color and first Asian American to ever lead the OMB. I commend President-elect Biden and Vice President-elect Harris for their commitment to building an inclusive Cabinet that truly reflects the diversity of our nation. I know that Neera is the best choice to lead the Biden-Harris Administration’s efforts to build an economy where every American has a fair shot to succeed.”
