CAPAC Chair on Meeting with DHS Secretary Jeh Johnson

April 30, 2014

Washington, D.C. – Today, Members of the Congressional Asian Pacific American Caucus (CAPAC) met with U.S. Department of Homeland Security Secretary Jeh Johnson to discuss the Department’s need to provide urgent relief and keep immigrant families together. CAPAC Chairwoman Judy Chu (CA-27) released the following statement:

“I thank Secretary Jeh Johnson for meeting with the Congressional Asian Pacific American Caucus to discuss a number of important priorities for the Asian American and Pacific Islander community. During our meeting, CAPAC submitted a list of recommendations that prioritize family unity and address current gaps in our immigration system.

“Secretary Johnson understood the impact that current policies have on millions of families, and listened to the concerns raised by our CAPAC Members. Although passing legislation is the only permanent solution to this problem, more must be done to stop the bleeding now. I look forward to continuing to work with DHS to address the concerns raised by CAPAC and other immigration leaders.”
