CAPAC Chair Praises President’s Actions to Keep American Families Together

June 18, 2024

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Today, President Biden is announcing executive actions to: protect non-citizen spouses and step-children of Americans from deportation; establish an application process for work authorization and permanent residency for those non-citizens; and streamline work visa access for certain Dreamers.

Congressional Asian Pacific American Caucus (CAPAC) Chair Rep. Judy Chu (CA-28) released the following statement:

“Today’s announcement by President Biden represents the biggest step forward for protecting immigrants and keeping families united in the 12 years since President Obama created the DACA program. Through his actions, President Biden is helping half a million non-citizen spouses and step-children of Americans to remain with their families, including many from Asia and the Pacific Islands who have lived here for years. Easing visa processes for Dreamers will cut red tape and allow young people to secure a job of their choice and contribute to our communities and economy.

“No one should have to live under the fear of being separated from their loved ones, and I am so relieved hundreds of thousands of American families can soon live and work with more stability. I look forward to our ongoing partnership with the Biden-Harris Administration, the Congressional Hispanic Caucus, and immigration rights advocates to establish pathways to permanent residency and eventual citizenship for all our immigrant communities who have long called America their home.”
