CAPAC Chair Statement on Nomination of C.S. Eliot Kang as Assistant Secretary of State for International Security and Non-Proliferation
Washington, D.C. — Today, President Biden announced the nomination of C.S. Eliot Kang as Assistant Secretary of State for International Security and Non-Proliferation. Rep. Judy Chu (CA-27), Chair of the Congressional Asian Pacific American Caucus (CAPAC), released the following statement praising the nomination:
“It is a privilege to congratulate C.S. Eliot Kang on his nomination to serve as President Biden’s Assistant Secretary of State for International Security and Non-Proliferation. With years of experience in both academia and the government, Mr. Kang has impeccable qualifications for this essential role and in fact has been serving in this position in an acting role since the start of the Administration. Given his qualifications, experience, and active involvement in our national security, I know Mr. Kang will continue to serve our nation well once he is confirmed by the Senate. In addition to being a skilled leader, he will also be one of the highest ranking Asian Americans at the State Department and joins a growing list of senior-level AAPI appointees in the federal government. I am grateful to President Biden for his continuing commitment to finding and nominating candidates that are not only experts from various backgrounds, but also experts who reflect the diversity of our nation.”
