CAPAC Leaders on Seven-Day DHS Funding Bill
Washington, D.C. – Friday night, just hours before short-term funding for the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) expired, the House of Representatives passed a seven-day patch to keep the Department open. CAPAC Chair Congresswoman Judy Chu and CAPAC Chair Emeritus Congressman Mike Honda released the following statements:
Congresswoman Judy Chu (CA-27), CAPAC Chair:
“While it is incredibly disappointing that the House did not pass a full-year funding bill for the Department of Homeland Security, I am glad that a temporary solution was found to avert this manufactured crisis. Any shutdown for our top national security agency could have been disastrous, a risk that far exceeded the worth of the doomed-to-fail anti-immigrant strategy of House Republican leadership. I am hopeful that in the coming days, we will pass a clean bill to fund DHS through the rest of the year, providing the certainty our federal, state, and local agencies deserve and require.”
Congressman Mike Honda (CA-17), CAPAC Chair Emeritus:
“While I’m relieved that we have seven days of funding for DHS, it is unbelievable that it’s come to this. I hope that in this coming week, House Republicans come to their senses and authorize a full funding of DHS that does not require the undoing of President Obama’s completely legal executive actions on immigration.”
