CAPAC Members Mark Three-Year Anniversary of Indianapolis FedEx Shooting
WASHINGTON, D.C. — On April 15, 2021, a gunman killed eight individuals, including four Sikh community members, at a FedEx warehouse in Indianapolis, IN. On the third anniversary of this tragedy, Members of the Congressional Asian Pacific American Caucus (CAPAC) released the following statements:
CAPAC Chair Rep. Judy Chu (CA-28):
“Today we remember and mourn the eight innocent people – four of whom were Sikh community members – who lost their lives in this unconscionable act of violence three years ago. On this solemn anniversary, I stand with the victims’ families and loved ones, who have grappled with a tragedy that no person should ever experience. Sikh Americans, AANHPIs, and all communities deserve to feel safe, and that is why I remain a staunch advocate for preventing gun violence and anti-Asian hate in all forms.”
CAPAC First Vice-Chair Rep. Grace Meng (NY-06):
“Today, we mark three years since the deadliest mass shooting in Indiana’s history, which claimed eight lives. I join the victims’ families, including the families of the four Sikh community members lost, in mourning on this anniversary. As a member of the House Gun Violence Prevention Task Force, I support legislation that would keep guns out of the wrong hands. To truly honor the victims, we must recommit to ending the gun violence epidemic and take action to ensure that preventable tragedies like this never happen again.”
CAPAC Whip Rep. Ted Lieu (CA-36):
“Three years ago today, a gunman killed eight people, including four members of the Sikh community, at a FedEx warehouse in Indianapolis. This kind of violence must not be tolerated. I continue to mourn all those lost and am thinking of their loved ones. The time to act is now—we must honor the memories of those who died by passing commonsense gun reform and ending the gun violence epidemic.”
Rep. Ro Khanna (CA-17):
“Three years ago today, eight lives were lost a horrific shooting at a FedEx facility in Indianapolis. My heart is with the loved ones of those killed, and with the Sikh community who lost four members in this tragedy. We must condemn racism and hate in all forms, and I will continue to fight for meaningful gun reform to keep our communities safe.”
Rep. Linda Sánchez (CA-38):
“Three years ago, a gunman tragically took the lives of eight people at an Indianapolis FedEx facility, including four members of the Sikh community. As we remember the lives lost, I stand with my CAPAC colleagues to call on Congress to do more to end gun violence in our communities and condemn racism and hate in our country.”
