CAPAC on President’s Immigration Announcement
Washington, D.C. – Today, Congresswoman Judy Chu, Chair of the Congressional Asian Pacific American Caucus (CAPAC), released a statement following President Obama’s announcement to take executive actions on immigration reform:
“I share President Obama’s frustrations with House Republican Leadership’s refusal to act on comprehensive immigration reform this year. An overwhelming majority of Americans – from business and faith leaders to innovators and community advocates – agree that Congress must fix our broken immigration system. Yet, Speaker Boehner decided to ignore the will of the American people and took reform off the table.
“CAPAC has long pushed for legislative and administrative solutions to address our broken immigration system – including commonsense reforms to reunite families caught in our current immigration visa backlogs and ensure a pathway to citizenship for the over 11 million aspiring Americans living in the shadows.
“I commend President Obama’s efforts to use executive actions to address flaws in our current system. However, we know that the only permanent, comprehensive solution is through legislative measures enacted by Congress. CAPAC will continue to push House Republicans to allow a vote on immigration reform, and remains hopeful that the Administration will put forth reasonable solutions to address our nation’s immigration challenges.”
