CAPAC Releases ‘Spill the Tea’ Episode with Rep. Raja Krishnamoorthi

August 13, 2026

Rep. Raja Krishnamoorthi sits down with CAPAC Chair Grace Meng to discuss the rise of anti-Indian hate and attacks on legal immigration pathways.

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Today, the Congressional Asian Pacific American Caucus (CAPAC) released the latest episode of its Spill the Tea with Chair Meng video series with Rep. Raja Krishnamoorthi (IL-08), Co-Chair of CAPAC’s Immigration Task Force.

In this episode, Rep. Krishnamoorthi discusses how the Trump administration has fueled anti-Asian and anti-Indian hate, explains how attacks on legal immigration undermine America's global competitiveness, and shares why he remains optimistic about our nation's future.

Excerpts from the episode are below.

On the rise of anti-Asian and anti-Indian hate:

“Donald Trump, as soon as he came into office, really played on people’s latent fears of the ‘other,’ whoever they were. ... And I think that that has now metastasized over ten years into almost a normalization of hate, whether it’s toward Chinese Americans during COVID and since then, or whether it’s toward Indian Americans,” said Rep. Krishnamoorthi.

On Trump’s $100k H1-B visa fee and America’s competitiveness:

“Our competitiveness depends on attracting the very best talent on earth. Whether it’s people from India or China or Sweden, it doesn’t matter,” said Rep. Krishnamoorthi. “When you put this ... $100,000 tax on this group of people who, by the way, fill some of the most exquisite technological roles in our economy ... you’re basically pushing these people away in the first instance and then probably getting people here to rethink whether they should stay.”
