CAPAC Statement on Nepal Earthquake
Washington, D.C. – Today, Members of the Congressional Asian Pacific American Caucus (CAPAC) released the following statements on Saturday’s earthquake in Nepal:
Congresswoman Judy Chu (CA-27), CAPAC Chair:
"The massive earthquake that struck Nepal this weekend and its subsequent aftershocks are a terrible tragedy. My thoughts are with the victims, families, and everyone affected by this devastation, which has already cost more than 4,000 lives and billions of dollars in damage to the affected areas. The United States government has responded with a strong commitment of aid and support, and I am committed to ensuring continued support for Nepal as it recovers and rebuilds from this horrible disaster."
Congresswoman Madeleine Z. Bordallo (GU), CAPAC Vice Chair:
"My thoughts and prayers are with the people of Nepal and all who have been affected by the deadly earthquake that has claimed thousands of victims. Many families also continue to search for loved ones. The international community is mobilizing to provide relief and assistance, and we are aware that the challenges are daunting. The United States has already begun to deploy resources to the region to assist in the recovery, and we appreciate the efforts of the Administration to support the people of Nepal in this time of need."
Congressman Mike Honda (CA-17), CAPAC Chair Emeritus:
"My heart goes out to the victims of the devastating 7.8 earthquake in Nepal, and to their family, friends, community, and the first responders coping with their loss. Many organizations, like PayPal, Unicef, and Oxfam, have set up ways to help the victims and the responders."
Congressman Mark Takano (CA-41), CAPAC Whip:
"My thoughts and prayers are with the people of Nepal and everyone affected by this terrible tragedy. As the rescue and relief efforts continue, the United States and members of the international community will do everything they can to assist the Nepalese in their time of need."
