CAPAC Welcomes Rep. Ayanna Pressley as New Associate Member
WASHINGTON, D.C.— The Congressional Asian Pacific American Caucus (CAPAC) is proud to welcome Rep. Ayanna Pressley (MA-07) as a newly confirmed Associate Member for the 118th Congress, bringing the total membership of the Caucus to 75 Members of the U.S. House and Senate.
CAPAC Chair Rep. Judy Chu (CA-28) and Rep. Pressley, issued the following statements:
CAPAC Chair Rep. Judy Chu (CA-28):
“I am so thrilled to welcome Congresswoman Pressley as the newest Associate Member of CAPAC! The Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander population is the fastest growing racial/ethnic group in the nation, currently accounting for over 21 million Americans and over 6 percent of the country’s total population. From speaking out against anti-Asian hate to protecting the civil rights of our communities to increasing language access and data disaggregation, CAPAC will continue to ensure that the wide range of AANHPI issues and voices are uplifted in Congress.
“Rep. Pressley has been a strong advocate for our communities, speaking up against anti-Asian acts of violence and racist rhetoric broadly. I am grateful to our newest CAPAC Member for her support, and I look forward to working with her to champion the issues most important to our diverse communities this Congress.”
Rep. Ayanna Pressley (MA-07):
“I’m proud to represent the Massachusetts 7th Congressional District, a diverse and vibrant district that is home to a thriving AAPI community. I’m honored to be joining the Congressional Asian Pacific American Caucus, and I’m thankful to Chairwoman Judy Chu and our colleagues for this membership. With harmful rhetoric and policies emboldening anti-Asian hate and violence, we must govern like lives depend on it because they do. I look forward to working with my colleagues in the caucus to uplift the lived experiences of the diverse AAPI community in the Massachusetts 7th and across the nation.”
