Congressional Tri-Caucus Statement on the When Women Succeed, America Succeeds Economic Agenda
WASHINGTON, DC – Members of the Congressional Tri-Caucus – comprised of the Congressional Asian Pacific American Caucus (CAPAC), the Congressional Black Caucus (CBC), and the Congressional Hispanic Caucus (CHC) – joined House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi to announce the “When Women Succeed, America Succeeds: An Economic Agenda for Women and Families” agenda. The agenda builds upon the accomplishments of the Seneca Falls Convention, the first women’s rights convention that addressed the status of women in social, economic, and political life.
Congressional Asian Pacific American Caucus Chairwoman Judy Chu (CA-27): “Today, as we mark 165 years to the day since women stood up in Seneca Falls and demanded equality in our society, there is much to reflect on the progress that has been made and the progress we have yet to achieve. One in three Asian American mothers raise their children without a husband. The fact that women earn just 77 cents for every dollar a man earns leaves their families more vulnerable to financial insecurity. That’s why I’m proud to join House Democrats in announcing this economic agenda for working women and families. While no single action can level the playing field for women in America, this is a strong first step towards achieving that goal.”
Congressional Black Caucus Chairwoman Marcia L. Fudge (OH-11): "Members of the Congressional Black Caucus applaud the When Women Succeed, America Succeeds agenda and all efforts to make sure women’s economic rights remain a priority. African American women are historically pillars of strength and stability for their families and their communities. When the doors of economic advancement close, African American women do not suffer alone. An agenda that advances economic opportunity and security for all women is critical to the success of our children and the future of our nation."
Congressional Hispanic Caucus Chairman Rubén Hinojosa (TX-15): "On behalf of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus (CHC), I am proud to be a part of announcing this critically important economic agenda for women. While we have made great strides over the years, Hispanic women earn 52 cents for every dollar paid to men. The fight for justice, for equal rights, for our values, is far from over. This agenda is a good start, but more must be done to provide women with the economic security and opportunities they deserve and their families need."
