‘A Raw Deal’: CAPAC Opposes Partisan Government Funding Bill
House Republicans’ bill hands blank check to Elon Musk to cut funding for vital programs and hard-earned benefits
WASHINGTON, D.C. — Today, Congressional Asian Pacific American Caucus Chair Grace Meng issued a statement following the House passage of congressional Republicans’ partisan government funding bill:
“House Republicans’ partisan government funding bill will make it easier for President Trump and Elon Musk to aim a wrecking ball at the vital services that working people, including millions of Asian Americans, Native Hawaiians, and Pacific Islanders, depend on.
“No one is safe from this disastrous bill. Veterans who were exposed to toxins during their service face uncertainty after Republicans reneged on their commitment to fund veterans healthcare. Seniors will experience longer wait times and backlogs with processing Social Security claims after Republicans fire thousands of employees at the Social Security Administration. Tens of thousands of working people will lose access to housing assistance.
“This partisan government funding bill is a raw deal for the American people. At a time when so many are struggling to make ends meet, House Republicans’ walked away from bipartisan negotiations to hand a blank check to Elon Musk to decide what to do with the hard-earned benefits of working Americans.”
