Statement from CAPAC Chair Meng on Google’s Decision to Remove Key Cultural Dates from its Calendar
WASHINGTON, D.C - Today, Rep. Grace Meng, Chair of the Congressional Asian Pacific American Caucus Grace Meng (CAPAC), issued the following statement on Google’s decision to remove certain cultural dates and national observances from its calendar.
“It is incredibly disappointing that Google is no longer recognizing important cultural dates and national observances in its calendar, including Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander (AANHPI) Heritage Month. The current administration believes that honoring the contributions of Americans of color amounts to racial indoctrination, and Google's decision is a capitulation to this dangerous worldview.
“Asian Americans, Native Hawaiians, and Pacific Islanders have built this country into what it is today. Honoring our community's contributions matters. AANHPI Heritage Month has been celebrated for decades, and we will continue fighting to ensure our community's rightful place in American history.”
