Washington, DC – Today, Congresswoman Judy Chu (CA-32), Chair of the Congressional Asian Pacific American Caucus (CAPAC), released the following statement about the Pew Research Center’s new report entitled The Rise of Asian Americans:

“Today, the Pew Research Center released a report that highlights some of the positive trends of the six largest subgroups within the Asian Pacific American (APA) community. As the fastest growing demographic in the U.S., these findings reinforce the fact that Asian Pacific Americans are a rising force that cannot be ignored.

Washington, DC – Today, President Obama nominated Srikanth “Sri” Srinivasan to serve on the United States Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit. If confirmed, Srinivasan will be the first Asian American in history to serve on the D.C. Circuit, and the first South Asian American to ever serve as a federal appellate court judge. Washington, DC – Today, Congresswoman Judy Chu (CA-32), Chair of the Congressional Asian Pacific American Caucus (CAPAC), joined the Chairs of the Black, Hispanic, and Progressive Caucuses in co-sponsoring Congressman Keith Ellison’s amendment to the Homeland Security Appropriations Bill (HR 5855) that would prohibit these funds from being used for racial, ethnic or religious profiling by state and local law entities or the Department of Homeland Security.

Washington, DC – Today, Republican Congressman Steve King offered an amendment to the Homeland Security Appropriations Bill (H.R. 5855) that would prohibit the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) from funding programs to ensure that Limited English Proficient (LEP) people can fully access DHS services or interact with DHS employees.  The amendment passed by a vote of 224 to 189.

Washington, DC – Today, Members of the Congressional Asian Pacific American Caucus (CAPAC) released the following statements opposing the Prenatal Nondiscrimination Act (PRENDA). The bill was considered in the House of Representatives earlier today and failed to garner enough votes to pass. All 35 of CAPAC’s House Members who voted on the bill opposed it.
