(Washington, D.C.) –Today, Members of the Congressional Asian Pacific American Caucus (CAPAC) released the following statements honoring April as National Minority Health Month.

(Washington, DC) – Today, Members of the Congressional Asian Pacific American Caucus (CAPAC) and a fellow colleague released statements denouncing H.R. 1307. The legislation, introduced by Representative Peter King, would eliminate Executive Order 13166 which requires multi-lingual federal services under the 1964 Civil Rights Act. A letter signed by 20 members of the Tri-Caucus comprised of CAPAC, the Congressional Hispanic Caucus (CHC), and the Congressional Black Caucus (CBC), was sent to Congressman King regarding the bill. WASHINGTON, D.C.—Professor Goodwin Liu, President Obama’s nominee to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit, was reported to the Senate floor today by a 10-8 vote in the Senate Judiciary Committee. Congresswoman Judy Chu, Chairwoman of the Congressional Asian Pacific American Caucus (CAPAC), praised the committee for their actions and urged the Senate to bring him up for a vote.
WASHINGTON, D.C.—Today, Congresswoman Judy Chu, Chairwoman of the Congressional Asian Pacific American Caucus (CAPAC), pushed for a quick up or down vote on the nomination of Edward Chen to be U.S. District Judge for the Northern District of California. Chen was voted out of the Senate Judiciary Committee earlier today.
WASHINGTON, D.C.—Yesterday, Members of the Congressional Asian Pacific American Caucus (CAPAC) met with fifteen commissioners from the President’s Advisory Commission on Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders to discuss mutual priorities and address critical unmet needs in the AAPI community. The meeting was led by CAPAC Chairwoman Rep. Judy Chu and Commission Chair Daphne Kwok.
WASHINGTON, D.C.—Today, Members of the Congressional Asian Pacific American Caucus (CAPAC) expressed their support for the people of Japan after an 8.9-magnitude earthquake struck the island nation early this morning. The earthquake was the largest to hit Japan in 140 years and unleashed tsunami waves that were over 30-feet high. Additional tsunami warnings were issued for 53 countries, with the current death toll estimated to be at over a thousand people.

WASHINGTON, D.C.—Today, Members of the Congressional Asian Pacific American Caucus (CAPAC) condemned a recent shooting in Elk Grove, California, that left one elderly Sikh man dead and another critically injured. Local police believe it may have been a hate crime since the men were dressed in traditional headwear and no other motive has surfaced. The shooting follows on the heels of a recent hate-motivated beating of a Sikh cab driver in West Sacramento.

Liu is scheduled to have his second hearing before the U.S. Senate Judiciary Committee later this afternoon.
