Washington, D.C. — Last Friday, the Senate confirmed Judge Jinsook Ohta to serve on the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of California and Judge Shalina D. Kumar to serve on the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan. Judge Ohta is the first AAPI judge on the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of California, and Judge Kumar is the first federal judge of South Asian descent in Michigan.

Washington, D.C. — On Wednesday, President Biden announced nine new federal judicial nominees including Judge Kenly Kiya Kato. Judge Kato has been nominated to serve on the United States District Court for the Central District of California, where if confirmed, she would be the second AAPI woman to serve in the Central District of California. Washington, D.C. — Today, President Biden announced that he is nominating Olympic champion Michelle Kwan as the U.S. Ambassador to Belize. Washington, D.C. —  Today, the Senate confirmed Judge Jennifer Sung to serve on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit. She will be the first AAPI judge from Oregon on the Ninth Circuit. Congressional Asian Pacific American Caucus (CAPAC) Chair Rep. Washington, D.C. — On Monday night, the Senate confirmed Judge Lucy Koh to serve on the US Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit. Judge Koh is the first Korean American woman to serve as a federal appellate judge and only the second Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) woman to serve on the Ninth Circuit from California. Judge Koh was the US District Judge for the Northern District of California, where she has served since being nominated by President Obama in 2010. Washington, DC – Today, President Joe Biden announced that he has named Gautam Raghavan to be the Director of the White House Office of Presidential Personnel, making him the first South Asian American to hold an Assistant to the President position. Washington, DC – Today, the Biden Administration announced the official launch of the White House Initiative on Asian Americans, Native Hawaiians, and Pacific Islanders (WHIAANHPI), implementing the President’s executive order issued in May. WHIAANPI will be housed within the Department of Health and Human Services under the leadership of Krystal Ka’ai. The announcement also named U.S. Trade Ambassador Katherine Tai as the co-chair of the Initiative, along with HHS Secretary Xavier Becerra. CAPAC Chair Rep.
