Washington, D.C. – Today, the U.S. House of Representatives voted 245-180 to pass H. Res. 275, a resolution condemning the horrific shootings in Atlanta, Georgia, on March 16, 2021 and reaffirming the House of Representative’s commitment to combating hate, bigotry, and violence against the Asian American and Pacific Islander community. The resolution was introduced by Congressional Asian Pacific American Caucus (CAPAC) Chair Rep. Judy Chu and co-led by Reps. Carolyn Bourdeaux, Lucy McBath, and Nikema Williams.

This date coincides with the birthday of Vincent Chin, who was brutally murdered in 1982 in a hate crime. Chin’s death sparked national outrage and led to the pan-ethnic AAPI movement that exists today. CAPAC Members released the following statements:

The meeting, which comes during Asian Pacific American Heritage Month, followed a meeting between CAPAC leaders and President Biden in April, which Vice President Harris also attended. The attendees at today’s meeting included CAPAC Chair Rep. Judy Chu (CA-27), Rep. Ami Bera (CA-07), Rep. Stephanie Murphy (FL-07), Rep. Andy Kim (NJ-03), and Del. Michael San Nicolas (GU).
