Washington, D.C. — Since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, hate crimes, harassment, and racism against Asian Americans have increased drastically, with over 3,000 cases of anti-Asian discrimination reported through 2020. Recently, there has been a new spike in anti-Asian hate incidents targeting elderly Asian Americans, including the murder of Vicha Ratanapakdee, an 84-year-old Thai man who was attacked while walking in San Francisco and later died from his injuries.

WASHINGTON, DC – Today, leaders of the Congressional Tri-Caucus – composed of the Congressional Asian Pacific American Caucus (CAPAC), Congressional Black Caucus (CBC), and Congressional Hispanic Caucus (CHC) – introduced a resolution condemning the bigotry and white nationalism that fueled the January 6th siege on the US Capitol, and denouncing Republicans who encouraged the attack, organized and carried out by self-declared white supremacists.

WASHINGTON, DC – Today, President Joe Biden announced additional executive orders to improve the country’s immigration system. The orders create a task force to reunify migrant families separated by the Trump administration, address the root causes of migration like instability and violence, strengthen our legal immigration system, and require a review of recent regulations including the public charge rule, which would have penalized immigrants who used certain public benefits that they were legally entitled to.
