Washington, DC – Today, President Obama nominated Indira Talwani to serve on the United States District Court for the District of Massachusetts. If confirmed, Ms. Talwani will be the first person of Asian descent to serve as an Article III judge in the First Circuit and only the second female Article III judge of South Asian descent nationwide. Washington, DC – Yesterday, President Obama nominated Manish Suresh Shah to serve on the United States District Court for the Northern District of Illinois. If confirmed, Shah would be the first person of South Asian descent to serve as an Article III judge in the state of Illinois.

Washington, DC – Today, the Chairs of the Congressional Tri-Caucus – comprised of the Congressional Asian Pacific American Caucus (CAPAC), the Congressional Black Caucus (CBC), and the Congressional Hispanic Caucus (CHC) – released the following statements denouncing H.R. 3102, which cuts the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) by $40 billion over the next 10 years. The bill passed the House of Representatives last night by a vote of 217 to 210.
