Judy Chu (CA-32), Chairwoman of the Congressional Asian Pacific American Caucus (CAPAC), recently led the first ever CAPAC Congressional delegation to the People’s Republic of China. The primary purpose of the delegation was to promote U.S. exports and improve the U.S.-China relationship.

WASHINGTON, DC – Today, Professor Goodwin H. Liu was sworn in as an Associate Justice of the California Supreme Court after being unanimously confirmed by a three-member panel of the California Commission on Judicial Appointments.  In August, Members of the Congressional Asian Pacific American Caucus (CAPAC) sent a letter to the Committee on Judicial Appointments supporting Liu’s confirmation to the Supreme Court.  CAPAC Members issued the following statements congratulating Professor Liu on his confirmation.

Washington, D.C. — Today, the National Institutes of Health (NIH) released the results of a study entitled, “Race, Ethnicity and NIH Research Awards.”  The study found that despite its current programs to increase the racial and ethnic diversity among its intramural and extramural biomedical and health services research workforce and grantee pool, there are serious and persistent racial and ethnic disparities in the manner in which NIH funding is awarded.

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Today, U.S. Rep. Judy Chu (CA-32), Chair of the Congressional Asian Pacific American Caucus (CAPAC), commended President Obama for promoting diversity in the federal judiciary by nominating Miranda Du for the U.S. District Court of the District of Nevada. If confirmed, Du would be the first Asian Pacific American Article III judge in the history of Nevada, a state where Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders make up nearly 9 percent of the total population.

The hour-long meeting included Valerie Jarrett, the President’s Senior Advisor; Nancy-Ann DeParle, the White House Deputy Chief of Staff; and Chris Lu, the White House Cabinet Secretary.
