Washington, D.C. – Today marks the 70th anniversary of the passage of the Magnuson Act of 1943, which repealed the Chinese Exclusion Act of 1882. In June of 2012, Congresswoman Judy Chu (CA-27), Chair of the Congressional Asian Pacific American Caucus (CAPAC), introduced H.Res. 683, a resolution formally apologizing for the Chinese exclusion laws. The resolution passed the House of Representative unanimously on June 18, 2012. Chairwoman Chu released the following statement:

Washington, D.C. – Today, the Congressional Asian Pacific American Caucus (CAPAC) announced CAPAC Members who fasted in support of the Fast for Families campaign. Since November, faith, immigrant rights and labor leaders from across the nation started the Fast for Families campaign to urge Congress to pass comprehensive immigration reform. Four advocates – Dae Joong Yoon, Eliseo Medina, Christian Avila, and Lisa Sharon Harper – fasted for 22 consecutive days, consuming nothing but water.
