Washington, D.C. – Last week, Ms. Sherry Chen, a National Weather Service hydrologist who was wrongfully accused of espionage, won a settlement of $1.8 million from the U.S. Department of Commerce for her wrongful prosecution and termination. Ms. Chen was unlawfully targeted by the Department’s now-eliminated Investigations and Threat Management Service (ITMS) unit, which overwhelmingly targeted Chinese Americans for years, opening investigations without proper authorization or evidence.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, the Supreme Court of the United States will begin to hear oral arguments in Students for Fair Admissions v. Harvard and Students for Fair Admissions v. University of North Carolina, two cases that challenge the Court’s long-standing support for affirmative action in higher education. CAPAC fully supports affirmative action policies that consider race as one factor in a holistic admissions process.

Washington, D.C. – Yesterday, the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals in Texas v. United States ordered a lower court review of the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program. This ruling upholds the initial findings of U.S. District Judge Andrew Hanen that DACA is illegal. While the program remains intact for current recipients, Judge Hanen’s order blocks new applications from being approved.

Senator Mazie Hirono introduced an identical resolution in the Senate.
