WASHINGTON, DC – Today, U.S. Senator Mazie K. Hirono (D-HI) and U.S. Representative Grace Meng (D-NY), Chair of the Congressional Asian Pacific American Caucus (CAPAC), introduced a bicameral, bipartisan resolution to mark May 2025 as Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander (AANHPI) Heritage Month. The resolution recognizes the significant contributions that Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander communities have made to this country.

WASHINGTON, D.C. — May is Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander (AANHPI) Heritage Month, which recognizes the history, contributions, and achievements of the AANHPI community. 

The month of May was chosen due to two important milestones in AANHPI history: May 7, 1843, when the first Japanese immigrants arrived in the United States, and May 10, 1869, when the first transcontinental railroad was completed with substantial contributions from Chinese immigrant workers.

Washington, DC – Today, Congressman Derek Tran (CA-45), alongside CAPAC Chair Grace Meng (NY-06) and Reps. Judy Chu (CA-28), Sam Liccardo (CA-16), and Zoe Lofgren (CA-18), held a press conference to recognize April 30th as Black April and to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Fall of Saigon. The Congressman was also joined by Virginia Delegate Kathy Tran and Christina Bich-Tram Le, a Vietnamese-American journalist and community activist from Little Saigon in Orange County, California.

Washington, D.C. — This week, House Democrats’ Litigation and Rapid Response Task Force elevated their fight against the Trump Administration’s illegal attacks on the constitutional principle of birthright citizenship to the highest court in the land—filing an amicus brief for the  three birthright citizenship cases currently before the United States Supreme Court (Trump v. State of Washington, Trump v. CASA, Inc., and Trump v. State of New Jersey).

WASHINGTON, DC – U.S. Rep. Grace Meng (D-NY), Ranking Member of the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Commerce, Justice, Science, and Related Agencies (CJS), wrote a letter to Attorney General Pam Bondi opposing the Department of Justice’s (DOJ) decision to terminate federal grants awarded through the agency’s Office of Justice Programs (OJP) and urging the Administration to restore funding for critical programs supporting law enforcement and violence prevention.

The video series features candid, informal conversations with CAPAC members, subject-matter experts, and community leaders over a cup of tea.

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Congressional Asian Pacific American Caucus (CAPAC) Chair Rep. Grace Meng (NY-06), Chair Emerita Judy Chu (CA-28), and CAPAC Member Rep. Juan Vargas (CA-51) yesterday led 18 of their colleagues in demanding answers from 15 federal agencies regarding potential disruptions to services and programs for individuals with limited English proficiency (LEP) following the Trump administration’s Executive Order designating English as the official language of the United States.
